The Cynics were a group of people that, thousands of years ago, decided that they were going to rebel against society...only in a passive way though. So what did these people do? Well, to help you out I think that applying this situation to present times would be beneficial. A cynic today would: buy clothing that is not popular, not follow popular trends, live in a shack in the middle of nowhere...where there is no contact with people, and not worry what people had to say about it. Basically, Ted Kaczynski was a cynic...until the whole unibomber thing.

Seriously, though, a cynic is basically a non-conformist; however, in today's society the word cynic or cynical has taken on a different meaning. Cynical these days means more along the lines of negative, dismal, or apathetic.
